Local London Assembly Member Florence Eshalomi has urged youth clubs and organisations across Lambeth and Southwark to sign-up to the Mayor’s recently published online summer activities map.
The map has been made available on the Greater London Authority (GLA) website as part of the Mayor’s #ourLDNsummer social media initiative to promote the wide range of sport and activity clubs open to participation across the capital over the coming months.
It comes on the back of the most recent Mayor’s Question Time, where Londonwide Assembly Member, Fiona Twycross AM, quizzed the Mayor on his plans to link communities with their local youth services during the summer holidays.
Local Assembly Member Florence Eshalomi also raised this with the Mayor in a recent written question, pushing for a centralised database of activities over the summer.
The list of what is on offer in each borough is being continually developed, and community organisations and groups can request to be added to the list by completing and submitting a form on the GLA website.
Local London Assembly Member, Florence Eshalomi AM, said:
“Sadly, we have seen the damage done by sustained Government cuts to youth services in the capital.
“Whilst it should be reiterated the majority of young people are not involved in crime, the summer holidays can present an increased risk of gang exploitation and abuse for the most vulnerable”.
“The online activities map will provide an invaluable tool for young people looking to engage positively engage with each other and their local communities.
“I would urge all local youth clubs and organisations to sign-up to the map, to maximise its impact and ensure that it reaches as many families as possible”.
